Council N ew s
Artists Honored at Baltimore
and Atlanta Shows
At the American Craft Show in
Baltimore, held Feb. 25-28, the
Council presented its Awards
of Excellence to a select few
artists. Chosen from 700 exhibi-
tors by jurors Jane Milosch,
curator for contemporary craft
and decorative arts at the
Smithsonian American Art
Museum, and Josephine Shea,
curator of the Edsel & Eleanor
Ford House, a historic home
near Detroit, the recipients
represent a cross section of
the American craft scene: Nata-
lie Blake (ceramics) of Brattle-
boro, VT; Gretchen Romey-
Tanzer (decorative fiber),
creator of
Green Square

Orleans, MA; Dan Mirer
(glass), who made various ves-
sels©, of Corning, NY; Linda
Kindler Priest (jewelry) of
Concord,
m a ;
Reiko Ishiyama
(jewelry) of New York City;
and Holly Toraheim (wood)
of Nevada City, CA.
The Council took the American
Craft Show to Atlanta Mar.
12-14. Mark Karelson, director
of Mason Murer Fine Art Gal-
lery in Atlanta was asked to
select the Awards of Excellence
this time around. Paveen Beer

of Gadsden,

Sonya Yong
James (fiber) from Atlanta and
James and Victoria Mullan
(mixed media) of Pompano
Beach, FL, were chosen from
more than 230 artists.
In Baltimore, awards for out-
standing booth design were
given to Cara Romano for her
display of fashion accessories
and to Brad Smith for his invit-
ing presentation of furniture.
